Software
I enjoy writing bits of software, and sometimes I write something good enought that I think other people might like it too.
- OpenStreetMap Maps - Soon after getting a GPS, I discovered OpenStreetMap. Here are some Garmin maps created with their data.
- GQcam - A GTK+ framegrabber for Video4Linux devices.
- Gaddr - A simple GTK+ based address book.
- iAlbum - An iPhoto web exporter.
- Neil - A chatterbot currently wired up to AIM.
Hardware
Sometimes I pull out the tools and do some soldering, nail pounding, or wrench turning. Sometimes I even do all three at the same time.
- Painting the Garage - When Lis and I got our house, the garage was in dire need of painting. We took some time one summer to make it better.
- Painting the Basement - As part of our painting spree, Lis and I decided to change a basement room from boring gray to pretty red.
- Building a Garage Workbench - When we moved into our house, the garage had everything, including the kitchen sink. In the spring of 2007 I replaced that everything with a new workbench.
- Building a Basement Workbench - Soon after building the garage workbench, I built a similar (but larger) one for the basement workroom.
- Building Some Basement Shelves - Next in the series of basement projects: building some shelves to make a weird hallway waste less space.
Beetle Repair
Lis got herslef a 1969 Beetle in April of 2004. As she drove it around she would occasionally have something break and we would pull out Muir's book and fix it up. She has since upgraded to a more modern car, but we kept the Beetle around to clean up and drive for fun.
- Beetle Door Handle Replacement - The Beetle needed a new door handle, so we replaced it.
- Beetle Generator Replacement - In September of 2005, the generator in the Beetle died. We gave it a new one.
- Beetle Master Cylinder Replacement - The brakes broke in the Beetle in November of 2005. Putting in a new master cylinder fixed them up nicely.
- Beetle Rear Wheel Cylinder Replacement - The brakes started breaking again in July of 2006. It was time to finish the master cylinder job by replacing the rear cylinders.
- New Paint - In October of 2006 we decided the Beetle needed to have something done about its mismatched paint and slowly forming rust problem.
- Hubcap Cleaning - After getting the Beetle painted, the wheels looked terrible. First order of business: cleaning the hubcaps.
- Horn Fixing - The horn on the Beetle stopped beeping long ago, and I finally took the time to debug the problem.
- New Muffler - The muffler on the Beetle was on its last legs, so I decided to give it a new one.
